The annual Fortescue School Reunion is planned for Saturday, May 26, 2018, at the Holt County Historical Society Methodist Church Museum in Fortescue, Missouri. A buffet meal, catered by the Society, will be served at 1 p.m. The cost is $12.
In the past an evening meal was enjoyed by those attending but as so many were traveling over two hours to return home at night it was decided in 2016 to change the meal time. The museum will be open all day for everyone to “come and go.” This will allow time to renew friendships and to visit area cemeteries.
Fortescue School consolidated in 1949 with the Craig R-III district and high school students traveled there for classes. Doris Ann Chaney, Darlene Elder, Pauline Gillispie, Gloria Miller, Billy Gene Stone, Roy Twyman Jr., and David Winslow were members of the last Fortescue graduating class in 1949. Elementary students continued in Fortescue until the 1950s before traveling to Craig.
Those attending are invited to bring school photos and memorabilia to display. Reservations can be made to Mary Belle Carter, 660-442-5580, or Elizabeth Burnsides at lizb@embarqmail.com.
