Phyllis Evelyn (Martin) Craven, daughter of Charles Beck and Ivah Leah (Baker) Martin, was born January 15, 1924, near Rock Port, Missouri. She passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, Tarkio, Missouri, at the age of 94.

A lifelong resident of Atchison County, Phyllis grew up in the rural areas of Rock Port and Tarkio, attending Linden School, north of Rock Port, and Tarkio High School.
On February 20, 1946, Phyllis was united in marriage to James Edward Craven in Troy, Kansas. They operated farms in the Westboro, Missouri, area until retiring in 1978 to Tarkio.
Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker; she especially enjoyed cooking, baking, preserving food from her large garden, growing flowers and welcoming family and friends into their home. At various times she also worked at Interstate Nurseries in Hamburg, Iowa, owned and operated the Village Café in Westboro, and was employed at Casey’s in Tarkio.
She was a member of the Westboro Methodist Church, then the Tarkio Methodist Church, serving each in many capacities. Phyllis was also a past volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Phyllis is survived by two daughters, Nancy (John) Hubbell, Greenville, Illinois, and Linda (Keith) Brown, Denver, Colorado; two grandchildren, Audra Hubbell (Ted Werenski), St. Louis, Missouri, and Alexander Brown, Denver; great-grandson, Reece Werenski, St. Louis; brother, James Martin, Urbandale, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and beloved in-laws; and many friends. Besides her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, James, and six brothers, Clifton, Willis, Duane, Dean, Glenn and Ray Martin.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Saturday, June 23, 2018, at the United Methodist Church, Tarkio. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m.-11:50 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the church. A private family interment was held at Home Cemetery, Tarkio. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church, Tarkio. Online condolences may be left at www.minterfuneralchapels.com.
