Virgil L. Roberts, the son of Ernest Leon and Josephine (Bendon) Roberts, was born July 9, 1955, in Fairfax, Missouri. He attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri. In 1975, Virgil entered the United States Air Force, receiving his honorable discharge in 1978.
In 1974, Virgil was united in marriage to Carla Huber at the Assembly of God Church in Tarkio, Missouri. They became the parents of two children, Ernest and Angela, and made their home in Germany and California while Virgil was serving in the United States Air Force. They later divorced.
Virgil was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. He read blueprints and inspected boilers in nuclear power plants, retiring in the late 1990’s. Virgil then owned and operated “Bloomers Flower Shops” in New York state.
Virgil loved to sing and play the guitar, fish and spend time with his family, especially with his brother, Bryan. Virgil passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 62.
Virgil was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Roberts. Survivors include son, Ernest Roberts, Cato, New York; daughter, Angela Simmons and husband, Samuel, Martville, New York; grandchildren, Virgil, Kendra, Eric and Ethan; mother, Josephine Mercer, and brother, Bryan Roberts, both of Houston, Missouri; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A graveside funeral service and interment was held at 12:00 noon Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Linden Cemetery, Rock Port. There was no visitation.
