The Brownville Freedom Celebration will honor Vietnam veterans for their service during the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Tet Offensive.
“Veterans of the Vietnam War are invited to participate in this special day as parade marshals,” said Marilyn Woerth, parade co-chair. “The parade and patriotic program will highlight the patriotism and service of our veterans. All entries are encouraged to use this theme in their decorating. The parade down Main Street also features a decorated bicycle contest for children 12 and under with each entry receiving $5 for participating.”
Following the parade will be a patriotic program featuring a keynote presentation and veterans’ tribute by the Daughters of the Revolution Nebraska Regent and a tribute led by the local Boy Scout troop.
Other activities include the annual chip timed Freedom Run, a 5K, 10K and half-marathon followed by a Strut Your Mutt Dog Show where all dogs are welcome. The entire community joins together for programming that includes a Freedom Day Breakfast hosted by the Eastern Star, children’s games hosted by the Brownville Fine Arts Association and a special happy hour at the Whiskey Run Creek Winery.
Whether you are looking for family fun, good food or an opportunity to show your patriotic spirit, Brownville has an event for you. Enjoy local favorites – including a riverboat ride on the Spirit of Brownville and end your day with entertainment by Tim Javorsky on the River Inn and a fireworks display you won’t want to miss.
