• Ed and Robin Tanner, along with their three children, Robert, Rebekah, and Rachel, recently moved to Tarkio where Ed is the new pastor at the First Baptist Church in Tarkio. The Tanner family moved to Tarkio from Panama City, Panama, where they had lived for 2 1/2 years.
• The 1993 11 & Under Continental Amateur Baseball Association (C.A.B.A.) World Series ended Thursday, August 5, with the Kansas City, Missouri, Wildcats being crowned champion. Special awards were presented to: Special Recognition Award – David Reyna (California), for pitching the first no-hitter since the 11 & Under C.A.B.A. World Series has been in Tarkio; Most Valuable Player – Bradley Flanders (Missouri), catcher; Most Valuable Pitcher – Jeffrey Bollinger (Missouri); Most Valuable Hitter – Carlos Rivera (Puerto Rico) with 15 hits in 29 at bats; and Golden Glove Award – Danny Lezo (California), 3rd baseman/pitcher, as a pitcher Lezo had an earned run average of 1.385.

• Tarkio’s first Fly-in Breakfast was a resounding success Sunday morning. A total of 53 air ships of varying sizes, wings, and motors landed with 118 pilots and passengers joining the 254 drive-ins and members of the sponsoring groups. There were 14 who received plane rides including a member in the senior citizen bracket and a young lad of 2 1/2 years old. Some of the planes that aroused interest were a 1946 Funk 85 h.p. (has a cruising speed of 100 to 105 mph and owned by Mr. and Mrs. Edwin F. Farris of Faucett, Missouri) and the only bi-wing plane to attend, an open cock pit two place 1943 Waco piloted by Merle Humphrey of Shenandoah, Iowa, with passenger Bill Davis of Shenandoah.
• A crowd of over 500 saw a field of 50 tractors participate in 71 pulls at the annual Tractor Pull sponsored by the Missouri State High School Rodeo Association at the arena Saturday night.
• Tarkio’s Golf Course east lake is taking shape along Hwy. 59 on the north edge of Tarkio. The 24,000 gallons of water necessary to water the course each night will be pumped to the sprinkling system from the lake. The second lake, the west lake, has already been made.

• Citizens of the community will be interested in visiting the college campus of which a splendid view is presented in this week’s Avalanche. The new plantings of evergreen, shrubbery, hedge and trees made possible through the courtesy of Earl E. May of Shenandoah, Iowa, have made fine growth during the summer. Mr. May plans to add to this planting from time to time. Extensive remodeling has been done to the interior of Thompson Hall as well.
