Maryan Twyman, the daughter of Arthur and Minna Cloepfil, was born April 17, 1916. She attended Lone Cedar, a one room school house, through the 8th grade, before attending Rock Port High School, graduating in 1933. Maryan also attended Park College, Kansas City, Missouri, graduating in 1940.
In 1941, Maryan was united in marriage to Guy Noel Twyman, in the college chapel at Park College. To this union, a son, Guy Lindgren, was born. Guy Noel Twyman passed away in July 1964 and Maryan Twyman passed away November 30, 2010, in Lakewood, Colorado, at the age of 94.
Guy Noel became a Methodist minister and they served the following churches: Roselle, Illinois; Church of the Redeemer, Chicago, Illinois; Hampshire, Illinois; Stockton, Illinois; Sargent Community Church, near Monte Vista, Colorado; and St. Paul’s Church, Denver, Colorado. In each parish, Maryan fulfilled the myriad duties of a minister’s spouse, forming deep personal bonds in each community.
Maryan also pursued her own medical career, working as a Lab Technician for Robinson Clinic and St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, before moving to Illinois, where she was employed by the South Suburban Hospital. In Colorado, Maryan worked at the Monte Vista Hospital, before moving to Denver, Colorado, where she was employed by the Southwest Bloodbank, conducting research for plasma projects for the National Institute of Health. After the plasma research project ended, she was employed by Children’s Hospital, until retiring in 1981.
Maryan loved to cook. In her youth, she would help her mother prepare food on the farm for the harvesters. She especially enjoyed baking cookies, making plenty so that she could give to friends and family. Maryan and Guy’s church congregations were considered family to them and during her husband’s ministries at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Denver, she served as the Communion Steward and helped prepare meals for the Sunday Meal Programs.
Besides her parents and husband, Maryan was preceded in death by a sister, Christina Mueller. Survivors include son, Guy Twyman and wife, Roberta, Denver, Colorado; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
