The Piecemakers Quilt Guild met at 7 p.m. August 7, 2018, at Community Hospital-Fairfax in Fairfax for our regular meeting.
Bev opened the meeting and roll call was answered with “the craziest thing you did quilting.” One of favorite answers was: to start quilting, it can be habit forming and causes fabric collecting.
Jean read the secretary’s report and it was approved.
Some of the girls had tickets and ticket money to turn in for the Christmas Quilt Raffle. The quilt will be on display next month.
We discussed the Star Block Friendship Quilt each member has been working on for the December meeting.
Shirley read a thank you note from the Crazy Quilters and we discussed the invitation from them for the get-together on September 17. Their theme this year is “Gossip at the Beauty Shop.” That should be interesting.
We discussed some community projects we will do with the raffle proceeds from the Christmas quilt.
Bev gave the program and showed how to make a Crazy Quilt Block. In November we will learn some ways to embellish these different blocks.
For Show and Tell: Diana had a Log Cabin set on point, Rosita showed a 4 Posy Stack and Whack, a Crazy Quilt done in lavender, Bev had a Crazy Quilt she is embellishing, and a Crazy Quilt done by Ava from Fabrics Unique.
Did you know it is a German tradition to put a Spider Web (made of thread) on the back of a Crazy Quilt?
We discussed doing a scrap exchange at our October meeting – more details next month.
Sharon served a delicious cake and the meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting will be September 11, and the program will be Barn Board Quilts by Dana.
