The Rock Port Blue Jays traveled to Ludlow, Missouri, Friday, October 5, 2018, to take on the Southwest Livingston Wildcats.
The Blue Jays won the toss and deferred to the second half. After the kick-off the Wildcats were in business on the Rock Port 38 yard line. Southwest Livingston (SW) found the end zone on the third play and made the first score of the game. With a successful two point conversion, the score was 8-0.
No. 10 Brock Martin set the Blue Jays up on the SW 26 yard line with a 20 yard return. No. 29 Gavin Abbott gained some good yards on the ground, and set up a strike from No. 13 Alex Burke to No. 30 Aaron Lawrence. Now inside the Rock Port 15 yard line, the Blue Jays worked the ground game and #59 Dalton Stevens found pay dirt on a two-yard dive. The score was 8-6 in favor on the Wildcats, after a failed two point conversion.
The Wildcats’ next possession began on the 40 yard line, but on the second play from scrimmage, #66 Brett Gayler jumped on a SW fumble, giving the Blue Jays a first and 10 on the SW 32 yard line. Not able to convert a first down, the Blue Jays punted from their 17 yard line. The Wildcats went 63 yards in six plays, made a touchdown, and converted the two point conversion, bringing the score to 16-6.
Rock Port’s next possession started on the SW 16 yard line. They punted after failing to convert a first down. The Wildcats took control on their own 32 yard line. Four plays later and a successful two point conversion later, Southwest Livingston increased their lead to 24-6.
No. 34 Joey Herron set the Blue Jays up on the 32 yard line with a 20 yard kick-off return. Not finding the first down marker, the Blue Jays turned the ball over on downs. The Wildcats took over on their own 38 yard line, scoring on the first play from scrimmage and converting the two point conversion. The score was now 32-6.
The Blue Jays pushed the ball on the ground from the Wildcats’ 32 yard line with #29 Abbott and #66 Gayler, but found pay dirt on a pass from Burke to #49 Will Oswald. No. 29 Abbott converted the two point conversion to make the score 32-14.
Southwest began on the 40 yard line. They scored on a seven-play drive, despite a sack by #75 Kade Jones. The Wildcats failed to convert the two point play, making the score 38-14.
After a short kick-off, #66 Gayler returned the ball. The Blue Jays started their next drive on the SW 38 yard line, but turned the ball over on downs. The Wildcats took over on the Rock Port 30 yard line. The Wildcats were pinned deep by a sack by #34 Herron and #59 Stevens and were forced to punt.
The Blue Jays began on the 40 yard line, but were forced to punt. Southwest Livingston began on the Rock Port 30 yard line. Three plays later #30 Lawrence intercepted a Wildcat pass to give the Blue Jays the ball on the 35 yard line. The Blue Jays moved the ball well, but the half closed out before Rock Port could find the end zone.
Rock Port started their first drive of the second half on the 34 yard line. The Blue Jays moved the ball on the ground but fumbled the ball, giving the Wildcats the ball on their own 14 yard line. They scored on the first play. The two point conversion failed, making the score 44-14.
No. 34 Herron took the Wildcat kick-off back to the end zone on a 65 yard return. They Blue Jays were not able to complete the two point conversion, bringing the score 44-20.
Southwest Livingston’s next drive started on their own 39 yard line. They made a touchdown after five plays, but the two point conversion failed. The score was 50-20.
Rock Port was not able to convert a first down on their next possession and turned the ball over on downs. The Wildcats scored on their first play from scrimmage. The two point conversion failed, and the score was now 56-20.
Recovering an onside kick the Wildcats scored again on the second play from scrimmage, then kicked a PAT to make the score 63-20.
Rock Port’s JV offense took the field, and #28 Colten Stevens moved the ball on the ground. Rock Port did not convert the first down and the Wildcats took over. Three plays later #87 Trey Peshek jumped on a Wildcat fumble, returning possession of the ball to Rock Port on the SW 15 yard line. The Blue Jays moved the ball down to the 13 yard line, but the Wildcats intercepted a pass on Rock Port’s two yard line. The JV Wildcats scored in nine plays to end the game. The final score was 69-20.
The Blue Jays will host Nodaway-Holt/South Holt this Friday, October 12. The game begins at 7 p.m. Friday’s football game is Pink Out and Senior Night.
