A 2016 Caterpillar front end loader overturned onto its driver Thursday, October 18, 2018, in a farm field south of Hwy. 136 and west of Route U in Atchison County. The accident occured at 4:49 p.m. five miles west of Rock Port when the Caterpillar was backing up an embankment to the west and started to overturn. The driver, Courtney L. Hamilton, 46, of Kansas City, Missouri, jumped out of the cab and the vehicle overturned onto its driver’s side facing east with the edge of the cab roof landing on Hamilton’s legs.
Hamilton received moderate injuries and was transported by Atchison-Holt EMS to Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, Nebraska. The Caterpillar received extensive damage and was secured at the scene. The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal S.M. Hux, who was assisted by Sgt. M.P. Quilty, the Atchison County Sheriff’s Department, the Rock Port Police Department, the Rock Port Fire Department, and Atchison-Holt EMS.
