On October 10, 2018, the Fairfax FCCLA Chapter attended the Region 1 Meeting along with other Region 1 chapters at the Ron Houston Center for Performing Arts on the Northwest Missouri State University campus. This year’s theme was “Roped into Leadership with FCCLA.” The meeting was conducted by this year’s Region 1 executive council with president Maddie Silver of Maysville presiding.
During the meeting, members met up with other Region 1 members and had the opportunity to network, as well as enjoy the entertainment and a regional slideshow. The chapter was updated on this year’s activities and dates of all leadership conferences and star events. This year’s entertainment was the comedians TD & C (Tall, Dark & Comedy) who inspired members to take on leadership using their own talents and abilities.
Region 1 community ser–vice project was Honor Flight, which is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing veterans with honor and closure. The Honor Flight mission is to transport America’s veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorial of veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The region was able to raise $840 to donate to the organization.
The following Fairfax FCCLA members attending were: seniors – Shanna Gilpin, Kinley Thornhill, Destany Theas and Katy Baker; juniors – Jaelynn Hill, Jesse Graves and Jaycee Graves; sophomores – Gena Mitchell and Nick Hardisty; and freshmen – Hayley Palmer and Stormie Wallace. Fairfax members are ready to get roped into leadership.
