Kaely Kirwan of Tarkio, Missouri, a senior East Atchison golfer, traveled to Maryville, Missouri, to compete in the Missouri State High School Athletic Association’s Class 1 Girl’s Golf Championship. The event was held Monday and Tuesday, October 15 and 16, 2018, at Mozingo Lake Golf Course.

The weather did not cooperate and created a two-hour delay on Monday. Due to the delay and thus running out of light, Kaely had to finish her first day of golf on day two. She finished with a 99. Then, she had to turn around and start her second day of golf. She scored a 105. Her total in the two days of play was 204 and Kaely finished in 46th place. A total of 91 golfers competed in the championship tournament.

Kaely remarked on her golf career, “I competed  in state golf my sophomore, junior, and senior year. This year’s golf season was pretty successful considering I had several up and down moments throughout year, but practicing non stop and working on my mental game is what helped me finish my season so strongly.”
