The Rock Port Blue Jays traveled to Mound City to take on the undefeated Panthers Friday, October 19.

Rock Port won the toss and deferred to the second half, and Mound City started the game on offense. The Panther offense and defense proved to be the best in the state. On offense they put 28 points on the board and held Rock Port to 0 at the first quarter ended.

The Rock Port offense did prove that they would not be shut out. The Blue Jays found the end zone on their fifth possession. Moving the ball on the ground between #29 Gavin Abbott, #34 Joey Herron, and #13 Alex Burke, #34 Herron broke free for a 17 yard touchdown run. The two point conversion failed, making the score 34-6.

After a quick answer by Mound City, the score was 42-6.

With their next possession, the Blue Jays moved the ball in four plays to hit pay dirt for the second time as #13 Burke connected with #49 Will Oswald on a 42 yard reception and run. No. 34 Herron added the two point conversion to make the score 42-14.

The game’s final score was Mound City 62 to Rock Port’s 14.

The Blue Jays will host the Albany Warriors at Blue Jay Stadium in the first round of district action this Friday, October 26. The game starts at 7 p.m.
