The Rock Port Blue Jays hosted the Albany Warriors Friday, October 26, 2018, in the first round of district football.

Deferring to the second half, the Blue Jay defense took the field first. The Warriors started their drive on the Rock Port 32 yard line. Moving the chains twice, the Warriors scored on their fifth play from scrimmage. The two point conversion attempt failed making the score Warriors 6, Blue Jays 0.

The first drive for the Blue Jays failed to move the chains, forcing a punt.

Starting on their own 29 yard line, Albany again scored on the fifth play from scrimmage. The score was Warriors 12, Blue Jays 0, after the two point conversion attempt failed.

Rock Port’s next drive stalled out and they were forced to punt.

The Warriors were quick to score on the first play from scrimmage. The two point conversion was good to make the score Albany 20, Rock Port 0.

Starting on their own 37 yard line, Rock Port moved the chains on the first play. No. 10 Brock Martin took the hand-off from #13 Alex Burke for 26 yards. On the next play, #34 Joey Herron covered the rest of the distance to put the Blue Jays on the board. No. 13 Burke connected to #10 Martin for the two point conversion to make the score Albany 20, Rock Port 8.

From the 40 yard line, the Warriors got a first down before they scored on the fourth play from scrimmage. With a successful two point conversion, the score was Albany 28, Rock Port 8.

No. 49 Will Oswald took the next Warrior kick-off from the 14 yard line all the way to pay dirt. No. 34 Herron added the two point conversion, making the score Warriors 28, Blue Jays 16.

The Warriors started their next drive on the Rock Port 15 yard line. Achieving four first downs on an 11 play drive, the Warriors found the end zone again. With a successful two point conversion the score was Albany 36, Rock Port 16.

On the next Blue Jay drive, they moved the chains once, but failed to do so again, turning the ball over on downs.

Albany found the end zone on the ninth play from scrimmage on the next drive. With a successful two point conversion the score was Albany 44, Rock Port 16.

After the kick-off the Blue Jays were in business on the Albany 36 yard line. No. 34 Herron only needed one play to cover the 44 yards to the end zone. No. 13 Burke added the two point conversion to make the score Albany 44, Rock Port 24.

The Warriors began on the Rock Port 37 yard line, but fumbled on the first play. The ball was recovered by #28 Colten Stevens. This gave the Blue Jays the ball on their own 37 yard line. No. 34 Herron covered the 37 yards in two plays to improve the score. The two point conversion failed, making the score Albany 44, Rock Port 30.

The Warriors returned the ensuing kick-off but the two point conversion failed, making the score Albany 50, Rock Port 30.

From the Albany 35 yard line, the Blue Jays moved the ball on the ground to the 16 yard line. No. 13 Burke rolled out looking to pass but decided to keep the ball, covering the distance to the Blue Jays’ score. No. 13 Burke connected on a pass to #30 Aaron Lawrence for the two point conversion. The score was now Albany 50, Rock Port 38.

The next possession for the Warriors was a one play drive covering 42 yards and ending in a touchdown. The two point conversion failed, and the score was Albany 56, Rock Port 38.

Rock Port’s next drive ended the half.

First on offense after the half, the Blue Jays started a drive on the Albany 33 yard line. The Jays ran two running plays to #34 Herron, the last a 45 yard touchdown run. No. 34 Herron also tacked on the two point conversion to make the score Albany 56, Rock Port 46.

Albany began their next drive on their own 36 yard line. Moving the chains once, they were unable to convert a another first down and turned the ball over on downs. Rock Port started their possession on the Albany 15 yard line. Moving the chains once, the drive stalled and the Blue Jays were forced to punt.

From the Rock Port 19 yard line the Warriors were stripped of the ball by #50 Kalen LaHue on the second play. No. 29 Gavin Abbott jumped on the fumble to give the Blue Jays the ball on their own 20 yard line.

On the second play from scrimmage, #10 Martin ran 26 yards to the end zone. No. 13 Burke added the two point conversion to make the score Albany 56, Rock Port 54.

After the kick-off the Warriors started at the Rock Port 29 yard line. Moving the chains four times in nine plays, Albany was forced to punt.

Rock Port began on the Warrior 15 yard line. No. 34 Herron took the first hand-off 65 yards for the touchdown needed to put the Blue Jays on top. The two point conversion failed, making the score Rock Port 60, Albany 56.

Albany’s next possession was foiled when #50 LaHue jumped on a fumbled hand-off. This gave the Blue Jays the ball on the Albany 32 yard line. Rock Port’s offense stalled and was forced to punt.

Albany’s next possession was also stalled. After the punt, the Blue Jays began on the Albany 20 yard line. Moving the ball on the ground and achieving three first downs, the Blue Jays scored again on a six yard run by #34 Herron. Herron also added the two point conversion, making the score Rock Port 68, Albany 56.

Albany began their next drive on the Rock Port 33 yard line, but were unable to achieve a first down. Rock Port took possession on their own 38 yard line. On the first play the Warriors recovered a Blue Jay fumble.

Albany moved the chains once, but they were unable to do so again, turning the ball over on downs. This gave Rock Port the ball on the Albany 36 yard line. After making a first down, the Blue Jays were able to go into the victory formation to win the first round play-off game.

The Blue Jays will travel to Stanberry this Friday, November 2, where they will meet the Stanberry Bulldogs in the second round of district football. The game begins at 7 p.m.
