East Atchison cruised through the first round of District 16 action, as they beat NorthWest Nodaway 72-0 in the first half of play.

Senior receiver Gage McAdams would get things going with a 26 yard pass catch and run from junior quarterback Jake McEnaney. The two point conversion was good. Next up for the Wolves was junior running back Briacin Bywater who lit up the scoreboard with the next two touchdowns. The first was on a 3 yard run, followed by a 52 yard run. Freshman defense back Kaylin Merriweather would get into the action with a 12 yard fumble return, caused by senior linebacker Garrett Meyer, and the two point conversion was good. Quarterback Jake McEnaney closed out the first quarter with a 32 yard run. The PAT was no good. The Wolves would have a commanding 36-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Senior tight end Garrett Meyer would start the second quarter with a screen pass from McEnaney. Meyer went 50 yards for the touchdown and the PAT was good.

The Musket offense had limited success and turned the ball over on downs. McAdams would find an open spot in the end zone catching a three yard pass from McEnaney. Running back Kaylin Merriweather would run one in from 12 yards out, bringing the score to 58-0. Junior running back Gus Hurst took the hand-off from freshman quarterback Josh Smith for six points, giving the Wolves the lead 64-0.

To end the game, quarterback Josh Smith would connect with McAdams for a 14 yard touchdown, bringing the final score to 72-0 East Atchison.

The Wolves’ defense was able to control the line holding the Muskets to a total of four first downs and 73 offensive yards, 11 passing and 62 rushing the entire game.

East Atchison will travel to Grant City this Friday to take on the Worth County Tigers. Good luck.
