• The largest real estate sale made in many years in northwest Missouri was completed Tuesday between Charles T. Manley and the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance company. The deal involved 1,760 acres of land, 1,280 of which brought $70 per acre, and 480 acres at approximately $50. The total investment is said to amount to better than $115,000. The land is located 15 miles southeast of Tarkio and is known as ranches 5 and 7, former Rankin holdings. Mr. Manley is said to be one of the largest raisers of white face purebred cattle in the state and is the owner of Manley Incorporated, owners of the popcorn elevator in Tarkio, which is said to be the largest elevator of its kind in the world. The elevator is so large that it has been estimated that if every acre of the land purchased this week by Manley were to be planted in popcorn, the crop when delivered would fill only half of the bins.
