The Westboro United Methodist Church held the 78th annual Lord’s Acre Festival October 13 and 14, 2018, in Westboro, Missouri. The weekend was full of fun-filled festivities for people of all ages. This year’s theme was “Harvesting the Faith.”

Saturday’s activities began with the Lord’s Acre Day Parade. Winners of the parade contests include: floats – 1st, Peregrine family; 2nd, American Legion; and 3rd, Lions Club; classic/antique autos – 1st, Mike Murphy with a 1979 TransAm; 2nd, Robert Phillips with a 1949 Dodge pickup; classic farm equipment – 1st, Kent Lawrence with a 1948 H Farmall Tractor and T-6 Crawler; and 2nd, Alan McNaughton with a 1953 420 John Deere; best small motorized vehicle – 1st, Hallie Riggins “Harvesting the Fruit of the Spirit”; 2nd, Owen and Nola Bruce “fireman” and “dalmation”; and 3rd, Holden Bruce “fireman”; most unusual/original costume – 1st, Adrianne Moore as Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas; 2nd, Joslyn Mather as a scarecrow; 3rd, Wyatt Mather as an Army man; and 4th, Aydnn King as Bat Girl; and best decorated pet – 1st, Josie King with dog, Claire.

The fun continued with a cake contest. Winners included: German chocolate from scratch – 1st, Pat Martin; angel food from a box – 1st, Cathy Riggins; and 2nd, Evelyn Cerven; angel food from scratch – 1st, Pat Martin; and 2nd, Mildred Morrison; butter cake from a box – 1st, Sharron Brown; butter cake from scratch – 1st, Pat Martin; 2nd, Melody Barnett; and 3rd, Sharron Brown with a maple nut chiffon; best decorated cake – 1st place, Pastor Julie Sanders; over 12 children’s best cake – 1st, Emmy Laur; 2nd, Alex Barnett; and 3rd, Stormy Nordhausen; over 12 children’s best decorated – 1st, Guy and Lance; 2nd, Camille Gibson; and 3rd, Drew Andrews; under 12 children’s best cake – 1st, Hallie Riggons; and 2nd, Laila Richardson; under 12 children’s best decorated – 1st, Chase Pickrel; 2nd (tie), Claire Pickrel and Aydnn King; 3rd (tie), Rainy Nord-hausen and Linley Hogue; and 4th (tie), Holden Bruce and Owen Bruce.

A baby show was also held during the festivities. Winners included: birth to 9 months – “Brightest Eyes” Reagan Price, daughter of Jared and Kelsey Price of Bedford, Iowa; and “Biggest Flirt” Cash Stovall, son of Taylor Stovall and Scott Stovall of Lincoln, Nebraska; and 18 months to 3 years – “Cutest Cheeks” Nola Bruce, daughter of Sasha and Ronnie Bruce of Westboro; and “Biggest Ham or Cut-Up” Jagger Price, son of Jared and Kelsey Price of Bedford.

Adrianne Moore as Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas won 1st place and Wyatt Mather as an Army man won 2nd in the costume contest.

Five year-old Chase Pickrel’s spider web cake won the under 12 children’s best decorated cake contest.

Guy’s and Lance’s cauldron cake was named the winner of the over 12 children’s best decorated cake.
