The East Atchison Lady Wolves hosted the Class 1, District 16 Volleyball Tournament in Tarkio this past week. It was an exciting couple of days of competition. Ultimately, the Rock Port Lady Blue Jays came out as the District Champions, defeating the Lady Wolves in the championship game.

The East Atchison Lady Wolves had a bye in the first round of the tournament. In the second round, they played Nodaway-Holt Lady Trojans, winning in two games with final scores of 25-20 and 25-19. EA’s stat leaders were: Aces – Jaycee Graves, 4; Assists – Brynnan Poppa, 13; Kills – Ella Rolf, 4; Blocks – Cheyenne Gray and Cat Prater, 1 each; and Digs – Grace Martin, 7.

The Lady Jays faced off with North Nodaway in their first competition of the tournament, winning in two games with final scores of 25-3 and 25-7. RP’s stat leaders were: Aces – Kelcie Gaines, 13; Assists – Makenna Farmer, 8; Kills – Drue Kemerling, 4; Blocks – Alivia Baucom, 1; and Digs – Brooklyn Jakub, 3.

In Rock Port’s second match of the tournament, the Lady Jays took the court against the Mound City Lady Panthers. Rock Port won the match in two games with final scores of 25-12 and 25-23. The Lady Jays’ stat leaders were: Aces – Abby Bradley and Kelcie Gaines, 1 each; Assists – Kelcie Gaines, 14; Kills – Darius Skillen and Makenna Farmer, 5 each; Blocks – Drue Kemerling, 2; and Digs – Riley Vogler, 6.

Both the Lady Jays and the Lady Wolves advanced to the championship game. The Lady Jays won the match, earning the Class 1, District 16 title, in two sets with final scores of 25-16 and 25-21. Stat leaders for the two teams included: Aces – Makenna Farmer (RP) and Jesse Graves (EA), 1 each; Assists – Makenna Farmer (RP) 12 and Brynnan Poppa (EA) 15; Kills – Alivia Baucom (RP) 8 and Jaycee Graves (EA) 6; Blocks – Alivia Baucom (RP), Drue Kemerling (RP), Makenna Farmer (RP), and Jaycee Graves (EA), 1 each; and Digs – Kelcie Gaines (RP) 15 and Grace Martin (EA) 17.

The Lady Jays finished their regular season with an 18-8 overall record and a 10-2 275 Conference record. The Lady Wolves finished their season with an overall record of 19-9 and a 275 Conference record of 11-1.

With the District win, the Lady Jays advanced to the Class 1, Section 4 match against West Platte this past Saturday.
