Last week’s Tarkio Avalanche gave the details of one of the largest real estate transactions that has taken place in Atchison County in some years. In this transaction, Charles T. Manley of Kansas City, who owns the large popcorn processing plant in Tarkio, purchased from the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company 1.760 acres of land known as ranches No. 5 and 7, about 15 miles southeast of Tarkio, former Rankin holdings. Of the large tract, 1,280 acres brought $70 an acre and 480 acres changed hands at approximately $50 an acre. The deal involved a matter of $, Jr., 5,000.00.

November 14, 1968

Miss Marcia Muntz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Muntz, Rock Port, has been selected as a member of Central Missouri State College’s “Marching Mules” band. Known as one of the finest marching bands in the Midwest, the Marching Mules have appeared during half times of nationally televised professional football games the past two seasons. Membership in the Marching Mules is on a competitive basis with this year’s members selected from 175 auditioning musicians. A freshman at CMSC, Marcia is in her first year with the Marching Mules and plays the trumpet.

Daub’s Furniture and Appliance, formerly located at I-29 and Hwy. 136, has moved to Main Street. Daub’s is located next to Watts Cleaners in the former Sears building. They are looking forward to serving Rock Port and the surrounding area with their furniture and appliance needs.

The FHA and FFA chapters held their annual barnwarming festivities on November 1, 1993, in the elementary gym. Michael Phelps and Jenny Palmer were crowned king and queen. The senior attendants were Tami Laflin and Jamie Thomas. The junior attendants were Patti Gubser and Ryan Griffin. Dana Brion and Dani Schmielau were the sophomore attendants. The attendants for the freshman class were Danny Palmer and Cindi VanHouten.
