The Merchants of Brownville will celebrate an “Olde Time Christmas in Brownville” Saturday, December 1. Activities will begin at 7:00 a.m. and continue until 9:00 p.m. There will be trolley rides, shopping, home tours, music, plays and much more. All of Main Street and the Whiskey Run Creek Nature Trail will be lit up.
The Brownville Market will be open at 7:00 a.m. as always offering free coffee all day.
The Nemaha County Market Shop in Brownville will be open 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. They will have doughnuts, apple dumplings, lunch of hot dogs, a potato bake and a cookie walk.
Opening at 10:00 a.m. will be The Bird’s Nest Antiques (with “buy one get one half off” vintage items), River View Glass (with glass blowing demonstrations in the afternoon), John Lokke Art/Palmerton Gallery, The Lyceum Restaurant (offering lunch plus a holiday bazaar with craft vendors), The Flatwater Folk Art Museum (refreshments), and the Whiskey Run Creek Winery (featuring craft wines at 30% off, wine accessories and gifts, and sausage, cheese and cracker baskets.
Opening at 11:00 a.m. will be Sweetwater Brooms & Engraving (refreshments and 15% off) and Mary’s Emporium ( 10% off).
The Brownville Concert Hall will open at 12 noon, with a special Christmas carol sing-along led by members of an Auburn church choir at 3:00 p.m. There will also be tours of the Muir House and the Thompson House (refreshments).
The Schoolhouse Art Gallery will offer children’s’ Christmas craft activities (refreshments) from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The Brownville Historical Society will have the Sage Museum, Wheel House Museum and Carson House open for tours from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. You can enjoy hot chocolate and hot cider at the Didier Cabin from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., plus a visit from Santa.
A soup supper (choice of chili, chicken noodle, sicilian sausage and squash soups plus drink and dessert for free will donation) will be served 5:30-7:00 p.m. along with a bake sale.
The Brownville Village Theatre will be producing “It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” by Joe Landry Friday, November 30, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, December 1, at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, December 2, at 2:00 p.m. The play is a fresh and inventive take on Frank Capra’s classic Christmas story, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Set in a 1940’s radio station, the ensemble cast plays dozens of characters to create the story as a live radio broadcast with live sound effects, and retro inspired radio commercials sprinkled throughout.
