Submitted by Linda Kaye Payton, President of Unit 199

On November 12, 2018, the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit 199 met at the Legion building at 5:30 p.m. We did not have a quorum of members present at the beginning of the meeting, but did have by the half way point so we were able to conduct our meeting and finish out our year-end business. The meeting was called to order by President Linda Payton and Sgt. of Arms Hazel Kem-erling advanced our colors and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

The minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Barb Hines and approved following correction/addition. The treasurer’s report was given by Treasurer Sheridan Mires and accepted.

Communications: Sheridan shared a thank you from our Department President Sharon Slagle. Sheridan shared information on Sharon Slagle’s project.

Reports given: Membership was discussed. We are at 80% membership into department. Linda Payton reported on the District meeting that was held on November 10 in Maitland, Missouri. We had another successful rummage sale this past October. Our Community Turkey Dinner served over 300 community, legion and auxiliary members. A big THANK YOU to all who worked both events and for all those that donated. These two projects would not be as successful without our community’s involvement.

Linda reported that the Support Our Troops shirts are no longer available for orders. We finished up our donation list for county financial assistance. Two groups will be going to Cameron Veterans Home on December 11 and 12 to assist with shopping and gift wrapping with those veterans. County Government Day has not been scheduled yet, but should be held in March.

The Legion’s 100th Birthday Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, March 15.  Watch for details to come. The next meeting will be Monday, February 11, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas from your Allen-Schiffern American Legion Auxiliary Unit 199!
