• A new runway has recently been completed at the Gould Peterson Memorial Airport in Tarkio. There is still some concrete to be laid from the hangars to the runway. Work on installing the runway lights was scheduled to begin this week.
• Eric Levings and Trevor Houghton, members of the Tarkio High School Football team, were named to the KAAN Radio, Bethany, Missouri, All-Star Football Team.
November 21, 1968
• A personal transceiver, which man can use to speak to any person on earth, could possibly replace the telephone, as we know it today, by 1985. Satellites using nickel-containing alloys will beam the signal toward the sired receiver, wherever it is.
• Hy-Klas Food Store in Tarkio advertises turkeys for: Grade A Young Toms, 16-24 pound average, 33 cents per pound; and Grade A Young Hens, 12-16 pound average, 39 cents per pound.
ß• The double parking system came to an end in Tarkio with 100% support. Only five or six drivers had not seen the notice in Tarkio Avalanche and double parked, but they were quick to cooperate when it was explained to them by the officials, indicating their ready approval.
• Extra Specials for Friday and Saturday at Kirkendoll’s Food Market: Coffee, Folger’s 31 cents/pound; Northern Tissue, 3 rolls for 19 cents; Post Bran, large box for 14 cents; Great Northern Beans, 2 1/2 pounds for 23 cents; Lettuce, large head, 11 cents; Pascal Celery, large stalk, 18 cents; and Lard, 2 pounds, 37 cents.
• About 40 men went into the corn field Monday afternoon and shucked about 26 acres of corn for Mrs. Arena Horstman and son, Edwin. The ladies served coffee, doughnuts, and cigars at the close of the shucking bee. Edwin Horstman is still a patient at the Hand Hospital, following an accident when his leg was broken recently. At present, he is getting along fine, but will take quite a while to mend, it is thought.
