The children in Ms. Amy’s, Ms. Katie’s, and Ms. Jo’s class at Atchison County Head Start have spent the last week learning about Thanksgiving traditions. They enjoyed making Indian corn prints, feathered turkeys, pumpkin pie, and so much more. One of their favorite activities was to write their own version of “How To Cook A Turkey.” Enjoy these kid friendly stories!
Brantley: Get a turkey from the corn field. Cook him at home in the oven. Put it in a pot. Put some sausage on it and some lunchables. The oven should be super hot. Leave it in for 8 hours. Then eat it.
Ayble: Get a turkey from the wild. Turn the oven on so hot. Cut the turkey. Put some salt on it and put some pumpkin seeds on it. Then put it in the so so very hot oven. Leave it in the oven for too long. When you get it out it’s going to be cut up. Then we’re going to eat it!
Kash: Go hunting and use your hands and grab a turkey. Put it on a plate and put it in the microwave. Just put it in plain. Leave it in for 5 hours. The microwave should be very hot. When it beeps, open it and eat it.
Kyler: Get a turkey at the store. Put it on a plate and in the microwave. Put it in plain. Leave it in for 4 hours on a little bit hot. When it beeps take it out and eat it.
Zepplin: Get a turkey at the store. Put it in the microwave on a plate. Don’t put anything on it. Leave it in for 3 minutes. It shouldn’t be on too hot – just on 1. Then put some salt on it and eat it.
Myla: Put the turkey in a pan. Put some sprinkles on it. Then put it in the oven. Put it on 7 degrees for 4 hours. Then take it out of the oven. Take it out of the pan. Then eat it.
Haleena: Take the feathers off. Then put them back on. Cook it in the cooking thing super far away. Cook it for 10 minutes. Then eat it.
Raelynn: Get a turkey at the store. Cut it up so it’s not too big for a pot because turkeys can be too big. Then put it in the pot on the stove. Put some salt and pepper on it. Cook it for 100 minutes on super hot. Like it has to burn up. Then put it on a plate and serve it to everyone – to all my friends.
Tavyn: First, kill it. Put it in the oven. Just stick it in there. Put some hot sauce on it . . . like a lot. Take the feathers, head and eyeballs off. Leave it in the oven for 20 minutes on 7 degrees. Then set it down and let it cools off. Then you eat it.
Emma: I would get my daddy and have him shoot a turkey for me because he is the best turkey killer I know. Cook it with a big pan like we make cake. Use some salt on it and apple pie on the turkey. Cook it in my kitchen on my stove for just a minute until it beeps. Then get it out. Then let it cool off and eat it.
Victor: Get a turkey from WalMart. Cook it on the stove. Put some sugar and salt on it and hot sauce too. Put it on a plate on the stove. Leave it on the stove for 5 minutes on temperature 51. Then put chili on it. Then eat it!
Parkyr: Get a turkey at the forest. Use your claws to get it. Cook it with hot spicy mix. Use a heater to cook it. Put it on very hot for 5, 4, 6. Then turn the hot off and eat it like a chicken.
Mark: Cook it at my house in the kitchen in the oven. Put it in the oven with nothing on it for 4 minutes. It should be really hot. Then it will be done.
Gentry: Put it in the oven in a big pan. Don’t put anything on it. Put it on 5 hot. I don’t know how long to leave it in.
Taylynn: We don’t cook them. I like turkey. Yum! Put some syrup with it.
