Rock Port Blue Jays win 2018 South Holt JH Tournament

The East Atchison and Rock Port jr. high basketball teams traveled to Oregon, Missouri, to compete in the South Holt Tournament last week.

GIRLS

The EA Lady Wolves started the event with a howl, winning 49-7 against Savannah. Individual EA stats include: Claire Martin – 16 points; Natalie Hedlund – 9 points; Jersi Poppa – 8 points; Tommi Martin, Tessa Rolf and Keena Merriweather – 4 points each; and Emilee Caudill  and Camryn Holecek – 2 points.

The Rock Port junior high girls played West Nodaway in the first game of the tournament winning 23 to 7. Individual RP stats include: Mikayla Makings – 6 points; Kylie Nuckolls – 6 points; Tarika Patel – 4 points; Rylee Jenkins – 4 points; Chaney Vogler – 2 points and Morgan Cofer – 1 point.

The Lady Wolves played Rock Port in their second game of the tournament and once again found success. EA defeated the Lady Blue Jays 23-7. Individual EA and RP stats follow: Natalie Hedlund (EA) – 8 points; Claire Martin (EA) – 4 points; Camryn Holecek (EA) – 4 points; Emily Blum (EA) – 3 points; Mikayla Makings (RP) – 3 points; Rylee Jenkins (RP) – 3 points; Keena Merriweather (EA) – 2 points; and Chaney Vogler (RP) – 1 point.

The Rock Port junior high girls played their third game of the tournament against Mound City Friday night and lost 19 to 27, putting them in 4th place. The individual stats follow: Chaney Vogler – 5 points; Rylee Jenkins – 5 points; Kylie Nuckolls – 2 points; Tarika  Patel – 2 points; Mikayla Makings – 2 points and Dylan Kemerling – 2 points.

The East Atchison Lady Wolves beat South Holt in Saturday’s championship game, winning the tournament trophy with a final score of 53-41.  Individual stats for EA included: Claire Martin – 17 points; Natalie Hedlund – 14 points; Keena Merriweather – 10 points; Camryn Holecek – 6 points; Tessa Rolf – 2 points; Tommi Lee Martin – 2 points; and Jersi Poppa – 2 points.

BOYS

The East Atchison Wolves competed against Savannah, Missouri in round 1 of the tournament. The Wolves snuck past Savannah with a final score of 37-31. Individual EA stats include: Cameron Oswald – 19 points; Braden Graves – 14 points;Weston Klosek – 3 points; and Ty Kirkland – 1 point.

The Rock Port junior high boys played West Nodaway in the first game of the tournament winning 33 to 26. Individual RP stats include: Micah Makings – 18 points; Jarrett Hunter – 8 points; Aidan Burke – 5 points and Cade Makings – 2 points.

The East Atchison Wolves also faced off with the Rock Port Blue Jays. The Blue Jays won the contest 35-24. Individual EA and RP statistics follow: Micah Makings (RP) – 22 points; Cameron Oswald (EA) – 12 points; Braden Graves (EA) – 10 points; Aidan Burke (RP) – 6 points; Phillip Herron (RP) – 4 points; Jarrett Hunter (RP) – 3 points; and Charlie Litherbury (EA) – 2 points.

The Rock Port junior high boys beat South Holt in Saturday morning’s championship game with a score of 37 to 33. Individual stats are as follows: Micah Makings – 23 points; Jarrett Hunter – 5 points; Phillip Herron – 3 points; Aidan Burke – 3 points; Cade Makings – 2 points and Brogan Krutz – 1.

The East Atchison Wolves competed against Mound City in the 3rd place game on Friday, November 16. Mound City came out ahead 55-52. Individual EA stats follow: Braden Graves – 31 points; Cameron Oswald – 13 points; Charlie Litherbury – 6 points; and Collin Hedlund – 2 points.
