The Tarkio/Fairfax/Westboro Food Pantry Board met Monday, November 12, 2018, with 16 members present. Churches represented at the meeting were: Tarkio – First Baptist, First Christian, Presbyterian, and St. Paul’s Catholic; Fairfax – Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian; and Westboro – Methodist and St. John’s Lutheran.
In September, 55 families representing 118 individuals were served. In October, 108 individuals representing 50 families were assisted. Clients are reminded that their re-certification papers must be completed in the month of December to ensure that they may receive food in 2019.
In the month of December, coupons for hams will be distributed according to the size of families. One to three members will receive a coupon for half of a ham. For families with four or more, a coupon for a whole ham will be given. Clients must take the coupons to the Tarkio Hy-Vee to be redeemed.
Items that are needed at the food pantry include sugar, flour, macaroni and cheese, pancake mix and syrup, laundry soap, and toilet paper. Monetary donations are always appreciated as the money allows the shelves to be stocked with the items that are most needed. The board is most appreciative of all donations as well as the efforts of the many volunteers that make this ministry possible.
The inclement weather policy is the following: If area schools are closed due to inclement weather, the food pantry will be closed as well. If schools have a 10:00 a.m. late start due to inclement weather, the food pantry will also start late. They will open at 10:00 a.m. and remain open until 12 noon.
Food pantry board members will open the food pantry in December. It will be open Tuesdays, December 11 and 18, and Thursdays, December 13 and 20, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. On Tuesday, December 11, the food pantry will also be open from 7 to 8 p.m.
In January, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church will be responsible for opening the food pantry. The food pantry will return to the regular schedule. It will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays on the third and fourth weeks of each month from 9 to 11 a.m. It will also be open the third Tuesday of each month in the evening from 7 to 8 p.m. The next meeting of the Food Pantry Board will be Tuesday, January 8, at 9:30 a.m. The Tarkio/Westboro/Fairfax Food Pantry is located at 415 Main Street in Tarkio.
