December 2, 1993

• Country’s Reminisce Hitch (a six-horse team of Belgian draft horses) stopped in Tarkio on their way from Kennebunkport, Maine, to California.

• The theme for this year’s Christmas event in Tarkio is “Christmas in the Country.” The parade is being sponsored by the Tarkio Lions Club. Trophies will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries in the following divisions: pets; unmotorized decorated vehicles; antique vehicles; and holiday apparel and costumes. A $100 cash prize will be awarded to the best church/civic float entry and another $100 prize will be awarded for the best school class float entry.

November 28, 1968

• Harry Wright was presented with Ford Motor Company’s Distinguished Achievement Award for the ninth time in the 11 years he has been a Ford Dealer in Tarkio. He was also presented with a new award, the Customer Relations Citation, designed to recognize the efforts of dealers who practice good customer relations.

• It was Indian against Indian last Saturday afternoon as the Tarkio Indians did battle with the Seneca Indians in Springfield, Missouri, for the semifinal title in Class AA competition. Unusual circumstances saw the game end with Tarkio one point behind Seneca, 7-8. The game ended in a 7-7 tie, but state regulations for a tie state that after a two-minute rest period, the ball must be placed at mid-field and the team penetrating deepest into the opponents territory after four offensive plays be awarded the winning point. No punts or kicks are allowed. After several plays, Seneca was awarded the extra point.

December 3, 1943

• The bowling alleys which have been operated here for the past several years by Mr. and Mrs. James Asbury in the N.C. Trout building were moved this week to Rock Port. The Asbury family will continue to live in Tarkio and the alleys will be operated by Mr. Asbury’s nephew.

• Duane Bay, who was captain of the Tarkio High School Football Team this year, attained an outstanding record in that he played every minute of all eight games in which the high school engaged. Duane, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Bay, lettered four years in football.
