Sarah Lane Hogan Slemons, Bethany, Missouri, passed away November 21, 2018, at the age of 93. Called “Peggy” by family and friends, she was born November 22, 1924. She was the youngest of four children born to Ethel Vance Hogan and Jordan “Jerdie” Hogan. Her three brothers, Hurst, Jordan, and Bill preceded her in death.

Peggy taught in rural schools and the second grade in Bethany, Missouri, before marriage. She and her husband Richard, whom she called “Slem,” had a long life of many years together. When her children were school age, she began working as a first grade assistant in Fairfax, Missouri, and soon began to teach art to all six elementary grades. She taught in Fairfax for ten years. She had a quiet way and many friends.

As a young girl, Peggy was baptized and became a member of her beloved childhood church, Prairie Chapel, east of Bethany. After marriage she, her husband, and all four of their children became members of the United Methodist Church in Fairfax, where she attended until her move to Bethany.

She is survived by her husband, Slem; four children, Steve (JoAnn) Slemons, Rebecca (Joe – deceased) Longoria, Susy Carpenter (Steve) Long, and Caleb (Jonne) Slemons; six grandchildren, Dr. Jason (Dr. Lia) Slemons, Scott Slemons, Gabe Poole, Tyler (Naomi) Poole, Ezra (Kara) Carpenter, and Lane Carpenter (Tim) Beeman. All six grandchildren are college graduates. Great-grandchildren include Freda and Daphne Slemons and Alexander “Xan” Poole. Two nieces, Andrea Balmer and Martha Hogan, and a nephew, Bob Hogan, also survive.

Peggy has been cremated under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, Missouri.
