A 10-point buck was illegally shot from a vehicle on a roadway in Atchison County on November 20, 2018. The suspect was apprehended and charged.
The Missouri Department of Conservation is praising local citizens for stepping up to report illegal poaching in the state. One recent case involved a 10-point buck illegally killed north of Tarkio in Atchison County.
On November 20, 2018, an eye witness came forward and reported a subject in the act of killing the deer, which had been illegally shot from a vehicle on a roadway. Atchison County Deputy Wes Lopez was close enough to respond to the scene and apprehended the subject until Missouri Department of Conservation agents were able to arrive.
An investigation confirmed the eyewitness account. At that point, the deer and subject’s gun were both seized as evidence of the crime. The deer was given away to those in need.
A charge of Pursue/Take/Kill/Possess Or Dispose Of Wildlife Illegally was filed against the subject, Brett Barber of Westboro, Missouri, on November 20. Arraignment was scheduled for December 20, 2018, in Atchison County Court.
