A two-vehicle accident sent two to the hospital with minor injuries December 9, 2018, in Atchison County. The accident took place at 9:15 a.m. on Hwy. 136, four miles west of Tarkio, when a 2016 Subaru Impreza, driven by Ashley I. Porter, 27, of Bellevue, Nebraska, was heading westbound and a 1988 Chevrolet S-10, driven by David A. Laur, 36, of Tarkio was headed eastbound. The Subaru was overtaking a vehicle in the eastbound lane when it met the Chevrolet. Laur attempted to avoid hitting the Subaru and steered the Chevy right. Porter attempted to avoid the Chevy by steering the Subaru left. The front of Subaru struck the front of the Chevy off the south side of Hwy. 136. The Subaru came to rest on its wheels facing southwest, partially blocking the eastbound lane of Hwy. 136. The Chevy came to rest on its wheels facing east, partially blocking the east lane of Hwy. 136.

Porter, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries and was transported to Community Hospital-Fairfax in Fairfax, Missouri, by an Atchison-Holt ambulance. Laur, who was not wearing a seat belt, received moderate injuries and was transported to Community Hospital-Fairfax in Fairfax, Missouri, by an Atchison-Holt ambulance. The Subaru Impreza sustained moderate damage and was towed by Double M Towing of Rock Port. The Chevy received extensive damage and was also towed by Double M Towing. The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal S.M. Hux, who was assisted by the Atchison County Sheriff’s Department and off-duty Tarkio Police Department.
