December 23, 1993

• About 150 people were on hand to see Santa and to attend the drawing Saturday morning in Fairfax. The Kiwanis Club and Optimist Club gave sacks of candy to the children. There were over 30 winners of $15 gift certificates to Fairfax businesses and the two winners of the $50 savings bonds from Exchange Bank were Bea Paris and Florence Schaeffer.

December 19, 1968

• The administration and medical staff of Fairfax Community Hospital have urgently requested that a voluntary restriction of visiting be made at the hospital for the duration of this present outbreak of viral upper respiratory infection. It is requested that visitors be restricted only to a minimum of members of the immediate family.

• More than 60 people attended the Kiwanis Ladies’ Night Banquet Tuesday at the Masonic Hall for Christmas fellowship. A very entertaining program consisting of superb slides of wildlife and nature scenes coupled with fervent narration commanded the attention of all present.

December 24, 1943

• Mrs. Rebecca Graves, Fairfax’s oldest citizen and one of the oldeset persons in Atchison County, celebrated her 94th birthday December 10 and a gathering of relatives at her home made the day one of much happiness for her. She moved to Atchison County when she was eight years old, having been born in Clay County, Missouri, near Liberty, in 1849.

• Albert Kemerling is expected home from the European war zone within a few days. Albert has been overseas since last February. He was one of the first to land in North Africa, went through that campaign and later took part in the fighting in Sicily and Italy. He is coming home with an honorable discharge, as he is past the age limit and would have been discharged earlier had he not been overseas. He also served in WWI.
