The final meeting of the year for the Community Club will be held at The Ritz Friday evening of this week, with the monthly dinner at 6:30. The annual election of officers will be held, with the names of the proposed 1944 officers being submitted by the nominating committee. President Henry F. Stapel, retiring after heading the club the past year, says the meeting will be short, so that those attending other engagements will not be delayed.
January 2, 1969
Harold Hulett 26, Maryville, has been hired by the city council to fill the position of city marshal, vacated by Dean Lane when he was sworn in this week as sheriff of Atchison County. Hutlett, a 1960 graduate of Rock Port, will not be a stranger to Rock Port residents as he held the position of marshal from February 1967 for a six-month period. He resigned to become a policeman for the city of Maryville, at which time Dean Lane replaced him. While with the Maryville police department he attended patrol school at Rolla. He is married to the former Mary Mortimore and they have two boys, James 7, and Jeffrie Scott 6.

The junior varsity girls and varsity girls and boys hosted a conference game with the Fairfax Bulldogs on Tuesday, December 21. All three teams defeated the Bulldogs. The JV girls won, 27-13. The varsity girls’ winning score was 63-25. Mandy Runkles added 18 points, and Jill Meyerkorth had 12. The varsity boys’ score was 2-62. Cory Scamman contributed 29 points, followed by Curt Christians with 16.
The assist leader thus far on the 1993-94 Peru State College women’s basketball team is Rock Port High School graduate Sarah Gaines. Through 14 games, the 5’8” junior guard has dished out 56 total for a 4.0 average per game. Gaines is averaging 8.3 points for Coach Wayne Davidson’s Lady Bobcats who have won five straight games in posting an 8-6 record. She is the daughter of Sharon Gaines of Watson, Mo.
