IAMO Telephone Company was recently recognized by NTCA-The Rural Broadband Association, which represents nearly 900 independent, community-based telecommunications companies, as a Certified Gig-Capable Provider for delivering gigabit broadband speeds and enabling technological innovation in Iowa and Missouri. Communities include Coin, Northboro, Westboro, Elmo, Clearmont, Wilcox, Quitman, Burlington Junction, Shambaugh and Braddyville. “In order for local rural communities to grow, it is essential to have reliable broadband internet access,” says Tom Steinolfson, General Manager. He continues, “It is important for IAMO customers to understand they have better internet access than many people living in metropolitan cities across America.”
As a Certified Gig-Capable Provider, IAMO joins a national campaign to build awareness and industry recognition of community-based telecom providers that have built communications networks capable of delivering internet speeds of up to one gigabit per second, which is 100 times faster than those currently available in many U.S. households. With the ever-increasing “internet of things” households will require uninterrupted data service for multiple devices at one time. Considering potential “5G” service, fiber optic maintains its rapport for reliable service independent of exchanges fed from metropolitan communities. The fiber optic service is provided to 100% of IAMO Telephone Company landline connected customers.
“I applaud IAMO Telephone Company for its commitment to delivering the internet’s fastest speeds – an accomplishment worthy of much praise considering the unique and challenging circumstances small, community-based telecommunications providers operate under every day in serving some of our country’s most rural and remote communities,” said NTCA Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield. Jim Quimby, IAMO Board President adds, “Building fiber optic infrastructure for its customers has proven to be the best investment for the future that is paying off for residential and business technology needs, now.”
