A two-vehicle accident on I-29 in Atchison County December 31, 2018, sent one to the hospital. The accident occurred at 5:20 p.m. at the 100 mile-marker, one mile north of Corning, Missouri, as a 2007 GMC Envoy, driven by Thea C. Molacek, age 38, of Wallingford, Iowa, and a 2002 Toyota Corolla, driven by Richard B. Burns, 57, of Elk Horn, Iowa, were driving northbound with the Corolla in front. The Corolla slowed down and the front bumper of the Envoy struck the rear bumper of the Corolla. Both vehicles came to rest on their wheels facing south in the median. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts and did not report any injuries at the scene. A passenger in the Envoy, Jessie L. Clabaugh, 15, of Wallingford, who was not wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries and was transported to Community Hospital-Fairfax in Fairfax, Missouri, by an Atchison-Holt Ambulance.
Both vehicles received extensive damage and were towed from the scene by Double M Towing of Rock Port. The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper K.L. Ebersold, who was assisted by Trooper C.J. Blue and the Atchison-Holt Ambulance Service.
