Submitted by Acting President of the Tarkio College Board of Directors Don Jagger

The Board of Directors of Tarkio College recently accepted the resignation of Robert Hughes, President of Tarkio College, for health reasons. Shortly thereafter, Linda Brunk Smith, who has worked tirelessly to reopen the college, resigned as president and member of the Tarkio College Board of Directors. Because the application of Tarkio College to the Missouri Department of Higher Education had been submitted in December, the board felt the urgency to move forward with new leadership to keep up this momentum. At the meeting of the Tarkio College Board of Directors on January 5, Don Jagger, Vice-President of the Board, was affirmed as acting Board President until officer elections take place next month. The Board then elevated John Davis, Special Assistant to the College President, to the position of Interim President of Tarkio College.

Mr. Davis, a native of Tarkio, received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Northwest Missouri State University, and has been a high school counselor for 43 years. He has served as a member or officer on the boards of several professional organizations, including the Iowa School Counselor Association, the Iowa Association for College Admissions Counseling and the Iowa College Access Network.

The goal of the Tarkio College Board is to expedite the certification of Tarkio College and the commencement of technical courses as soon as possible, and the board believes that the appointment of Mr. Davis is a positive step in that direction.
