The Northwest Missouri Eagles Archery Team is competing in its third season in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). Up from 17 archers last year to 24, eight of the archers competed at North Andrew on December 15. Five local archers received awards in their division: High School Boys’ division – Blade Wright of Mound City placed 1st and Garrett Sheldon of Fairfax received 3rd; High School Girls’ division – Britney Wright of Mound City placed 2nd; Middle School Boys’ division – Brett Wright of Mound City received 2nd; and Elementary Boys’ division – Aiden James of Maitland placed 1st. Britney Wright shot a Tier 3 state qualifying score of 277 out of a possible 300 points.
Eleven archers competed in Platte City, Missouri, on January 19, 2019, three receiving awards. Ethan Lucas of Rock Port received 3rd in the High School Boys’ division. Britney Wright of Mound City placed 2nd in the High School Girls’ division and Brett Wright of Mound City was 1st in the Middle School Boys’ division. Ethan Lucas and Britney Wright each shot a Tier 3 state qualifying score and Brett Wright earned Tier 2 state qualifying honors with a 276 out of a possible 300 points.
Jade Wright is coaching the Eagles and commented, “I am looking forward to the season ahead and am impressed with the progress and marked improvement our archers have already shown. Success in archery isn’t about who is the tallest, fastest or strongest, it is about dedication to improvement, attention to detail, focus, and perseverance. Our team is showing strength in all these areas.”
The Eagles’ next competition is at Northland Christian School in Kansas City, Missouri, on January 26.
