The Rock Port Tourism Board met Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Rock Port City Hall. Members present were Mike Farmer, Mandy Herron, Holly Huntley, Diana Liess, and Jody VanSickle. Members absent were Tami Lansdown, Angela Mace and Chris Shimmel. Also present was City Clerk Emily Schulte.

The meeting agenda was approved.

Board members voted to approve the December 4, 2018, meeting minutes, and the December 2018 financials.

The following Tourism Board officers were elected: Diana Liess, chairman; Mandy Herron, vice-chairman; and Holly Huntley, secretary/treasurer.

The Trivia Night Event to be held on February 10 was discussed. Rock Port History Club will be offering a free-will donation supper and FCCLA will be offering free-will donation childcare. The board also discussed the purchase of a trivia question set, ideas for an event emcee, scoring guidelines, and prize amounts.

Fourth of July will be discussed at the next meeting. Board members plan to reach out to members of other local groups regarding a joint collaboration for the event.

Other 2019 events being discussed included:

• March – Home & Garden

• April – Stained Glass Art Exhibit

• May – Movie Night

• June – Washers / Outdoor Games Event

• July – 4th of July

• September – Old Fashioned Saturday Night

• October – Quilt Show / Vendor Market

• December – Light the Park Night – possibly coordinate with Shop Atchison County Night

Jody VanSickle mentioned being reached out to regarding the purchase of a Main Street trash receptacle by the city. The board is interested in receiving more information.

The next meeting date will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at 6:00 p.m.
