The Tarkio High School Winter Homecoming Queen and King candidates include, from left to right: queens – Grace Martin, Kaely Kirwan, and Lily Graves; and kings – Garrett Meyer and Gage McAdams. A king and queen will be crowned following the East Atchison basketball games Friday, February 1, at the Tarkio Activity Center.

Tarkio and Fairfax High School students will celebrate their winter homecoming this week. The Tarkio theme is “Jammin’ Through The Decades” and the Fairfax theme is “Homecoming Through the Decades.”

The week will end with the East Atchison Wolves taking on North Nodaway Friday, February 1, at 5:00 p.m. at the Tarkio Activity Center, to include the coronation of the homecoming king and queen of each school following the game. THS homecoming royalty includes: queen candidates – Lily Graves, Kaely Kirwan, and Grace Martin; king candidates – Gage McAdams and Garrett Meyer; and attendants – juniors Jae Barnett and Jake McEnaney, sophomores Jayden Van Zant and Grant Turnbull, and freshmen Haley Garrison and Dylan Campbell. FHS royalty includes: king candidate Tyler Brown, queen candidate Kinley Thornhill, and attendants Jesse Graves, Jaycee Graves, Wyatt Burke, and Trey Bowling.

The junior varsity and varsity basketball jerseys will be sold for $20 per jersey on a first come, first served basis starting Monday, January 28, 2019. Jerseys can be purchased from the high school office and are to be picked up Thursday, January 31. Proceeds will go to After Prom Bash.

Classes have been assigned decades to go with the theme “Jammin’ Through The Decades.” Each class is to design a winning theme around their decade: Seniors 1970s, Juniors 1950s, Sophomores 1980s, Freshmen 1990s, Eighth Graders 2010-present; and Seventh Graders Y2K 2000.

Students will also participate in dress-up days:  Wednesday – Decade Day, Dress Like The Decade Your Class Has Chosen; Thursday – Jersey Day (Favorite Retro Jersey: Any Sport); Friday – Wolf Or Indian Friday, Get Your Wolf Or Indian Gear On!!

The students will also participate in class contests: Wednesday – Burping Contest; Thursday – The Voice Singing Competition; and Friday – Lip Sync Battle and Cheerleaders Perform.

Added to the points of the banner contest, points earned from the dress-up days and class contests will determine the class winner. A pep rally will be held in the high school gym Friday at 1:30 p.m. A 5th Quarter Celebration will be held after the coronation.

Fairfax R-3 will also celebrate “Homecoming through the Decades” this week. Dress-up days include: Tuesday – Hippies in the 60’s and 70’s; Wednesday – Summertime Dreaming in the 80’s and 90’s; Thursday – Sports through the decades (dress in your favorite sports’ team apparel); and Friday – East Atchison Wolves Day (Show your EA spirit).
