The start of the new year has brought with it many celebrations at Rock Port Elementary!
Our Academic Excellence Celebration was held in early January to recognize the amazing academic achievements of our students on last year’s state MAP assessments. The elementary students and staff traveled to the State Theater in Auburn to watch the movie Moana.
The 100th Day of School was on January 30th with teachers preparing special activities to commemorate the big day! Students earning perfect attendance and meeting their first semester Accelerated Reader goals were put into a drawing for prizes during our special edition 100th Day Morning Motivation meeting. Their excitement and gratitude for the even the smallest of prizes was great to see.
Congratulations to our elementary basketball teams and wrestlers for their accomplishments at tournaments and meets on the weekends over the past two months. They are continuing to learn, improve, and most importantly have fun! Soccer and other spring activities are right around the corner.
Our Project Lead the Way Program is halfway through the first year. Our teachers, students, and community support have made it a big hit. Currently students (K-4) are learning about the human body, patterns of the sun/moon/stars, the changing Earth, forces on objects, and computer systems. In addition a Robotics Club has started on Monday afternoons for the fifth and sixth grade students. Rock Port Elementary has been asked to present at this spring’s Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals Leadership Conference on PLTW in rural schools.
Speaking of PLTW, nearly 500 students and family members have participated in our first two Student Showcase nights! Our next Showcase will be on Tuesday, March 14 at 6pm. The Book Fair will be in full swing in the Library that evening as well.
