• Fairfax Agency, Inc. has been honored as the second largest American Agrisurance premium producer for the State of Missouri in the 1993 crop year. The ceremony awarding this coveted citation to the Fairfax Agency capped a 5-day, Incentive Meeting January 19-23 at Westin Canal Place in New Orleans, LA.

• Hunter’s grocery store in Fairfax is celebrating its 81st birthday. The store began in February. All through the month Hunter’s will be offering high quality products at $.81. Customers will also receive birthday cake.

February 6, 1969

• Miss Judy Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Martin, was crowned queen of the basketball homecoming Friday night and her royal escort was voted to be Ralph Ball, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ball. Attendants are Danny Umbarger, Miss Connie Sly, Miss Penny Wake, and Jim Faulkner.

• J. Hayden Pyeatt was surprised Tuesday when presented the “Friend of the Farmer” award by the Atchison County Farm Bureau at the annual Soils and Crops Conference in Tarkio. Pyeatt has been vocational agriculture instructor in the Fairfax system for 23 years. In 1947, he was responsible for the establishment of the Kiwanis Corn Yield Contest for local ag students.

• A novelty game of volleyball between the faculty members and the girls’ volleyball team was enjoyed by the school last Friday afternoon. This was the girls’ first victory, not accounting for Kruse’s and Crawford’s hard “wallops.”
