The Northwest Missouri Eagles Archery Team competed in Platte City, Missouri, Saturday, February 2, at the 1st Annual Pirate Hunger Games. Twenty schools and 303 archers competed in the tournament.
The Eagles finished second in the High School Division with seven of the 15 Eagle Archers finishing top 10 within their division. Those archers were: Courteney Gordon, Blade Wright, Brett Wright, and Britney Wright, Mound City; Aiden James, Maitland; Cameron Sheldon and Garrett Sheldon, Fairfax.
Brett Wright shot a Tier 1 state qualifying score of 285 (of possible 300) and took first place in the Middle School Boys Division and shot the second best overall score. Britney Wright shot a Tier 2 state qualifying score of 280 and took second in the High School Girls Division placing sixth overall.
The archery team also competed at the Warrior Shoot Out in Smithville, Missouri, Saturday, February 9. The team finished second in the High School Division with six of the 23 team members finishing top 10 in their division. The team scored 3,102, qualifying for a Tier 3 position at state competition to be held in Branson, Missouri, March 22-23.
Results for the Eagles are: Aiden James, Maitland, placed second in the Elementary Boys Division and scored 261 of a possible 300, earning a Tier 3 position at state competition. Britney Wright, Mound City, Missouri, also shot an individual Tier 3 state qualifying score of 276. Archers finishing in the top 10 were: Britney Wright, Blade Wright, Bentley Wright, Brett Wright, Mound City,; Garrett Sheldon, Fairfax; and Aiden James, Maitland. Fifteen schools and 262 archers competed in the tournament.
