The Tarkio R-I Board of Education met in regular session Sunday, February 17, 2019. The meeting was called to order by board president Jeff Meyer at 4:04 p.m. Board members attending were: Chris Yates, Steve Klute, Jamie Barnett, Lydia Hurst, Garrett Wood, and Sam Hannah. Others in attendance were Tarkio R-I Superintendent Karma Coleman, Tarkio High School Principal Carrie Livengood, Tarkio Elementary Principal Kari Taylor, Lanette Hogue, Markie Sundermann, Deyton Thomson, Monica Bailey, Ashlynn Meyer, and Shannon Bruns.
The board voted to approve the consent agenda and the district obligations.
Citizen Comments – Lanette Hogue read a thank you card from Aimee Seymour.
Monica Bailey with ACDC gave a short presentation on the renewal of the ¼ cent sales tax coming up in April.
Administrative Reports
Mrs. Kari Taylor reported that the attendance rate for the elementary in January was 94%. Mrs. Taylor reported that Tarkio sent 13 students to math competition and five of them are moving on to the regional math competition in April. One student attended the Atchison County Spelling Bee from the elementary. The kindergarten and first grades hosted a Literature Party and they had 40 in attendance.
Mrs. Carrie Livengood reported that in the high school 97% of the kids are at or above 90% attendance for the year. She reported that they are working on the master schedule for 2019-2020.
Superintendent Karma Coleman reported on a plaque for the board members at the T.A.C. Mrs. Coleman gave an Ameren update. Mrs. Coleman presented tax receipts comparison for review.
Lydia Hurst moved and Jamie Barnett seconded to approve the second reading of the 2019-20 calendar. The motion carried 7-0.
Steve Klute moved and Sam Hannah seconded to accept the terms of the lease to use the Tarkio City Baseball Field. The motion carried 7-0.
The board voted 7-0 to approve Glen Arnold as a new sub. The board also voted 7-0 to hire Meghan Hughes as the Tarkio R-I school nurse.
Steve Klute moved and Sam Hannah seconded to accept the retirements of Diane Hicks and Sandy Meier effective June 30, 2019. The motion carried 7-0.
Steve Klute moved and Lydia Hurst seconded to approve quotes from Pat Athen for prep work for the floor in the multi-purpose room at the T.A.C. for $2,215.84, Midwest Data for a camera system for the T.A.C. for $3,158.43, and Coenen Enterprises for electrical work for the keyless entry at $1,976.00. The motion carried 7-0.
Job description updates for superintendent, nurse, custodians, and tech director were approved as presented.
Chris Yates motioned and Lydia Hurst seconded to approve the superintendent evaluation form as presented. The motion carried 7-0.
Discussion was held on auditors for the upcoming year.
Discussion was held on Tarkio Golf Club membership.
Lydia Hurst moved and Steve Klute seconded to offer Enel employees the same membership benefits as Tarkio R-I staff to the T.A.C. The motion carried 7-0.
Steve Klute moved and Chris Yates seconded to approve Lanette Hogue as Secretary of the Tarkio R-I Board of Education. Roll call vote: Chris, Steve, Lydia, Garrett, Sam, and Jeff voted yes and Jamie abstained. The motion carried 6-0-1.
Jamie Barnett moved and Steve Klute seconded to go into closed session pursuant to RSMo § 610.001, Record and vote. Roll call: Chris, Jamie, Steve, Jeff, Lydia, Garrett, and Sam all voted yes at 5:48 p.m.
Steve Klute moved and Chris Yates seconded to exit the closed meeting. Roll call vote: Chris, Jamie, Sam, Garrett, Lydia, Steve and Jeff all voted yes at 7:15 p.m.
Garrett moved and Steve seconded to extend Carrie Livengood’s contract for High School Principal for another year. The motion carried 7-0.
Steve Klute moved and Sam Hannah seconded to offer Kari Taylor a two year contract for Elementary Principal and Special Education Director. The motion carried 7-0.
