• Tiffany Taylor of Fairfax, representing Elks Lodge #1122 of Shenandoah, Iowa, won the Girls 10 to 11 year old division and advanced to the Regional Hoop Shoot to be held in Iowa City on March 19-20. Tiffany was one of eight district qualifiers to compete in this division.

• “Bits & Wits” by Uncle Fud: “This may not be the year for gardening. Uncle Fud is having seed problems, new seed and left over seed. Had a few left over seeds from last year, so decided to use them and finish out with new. The new seed hasn’t even sprouted yet and the old is thriving. Good thing in trying to get an early start, still have time to restart.”

March 6, 1969

• The seventh and eighth graders are making final preparations for the operetta “Her Majesty’s Ship Pinafore” to be staged Friday evening, March 7, under the direction of Ken Bittiker, music instructor.

• The Missouri Community Betterment office in Jefferson City has announced the recipients of the 1968 Community Betterment Service Award. Mrs. Shirley Wennihan and Mrs. Earle Sims were among 17 individuals to receive the service award and the Fairfax Forum was one of 42 newspapers to be so honored.

March 10, 1944

• Sgt. Eldon Hodgin of Fairfax has rigged up a workshop in the South Pacific to make a profitable hobby from manufacturing souvenirs out of Japanese shells and metal from downed Zero planes. Sgt. Hodgin turns out ash trays, bracelets, lockets, and salt and pepper shakers as well as cocktail shakers from the “raw” material furnished by shell heads, casings, and metal stripped from Jap Zeros.

• N.J. Ray is to hold a public sale at the John Woodhouse place, one mile south of Dotham on Tuesday, March 14, and will sell his livestock and farm equipment. Mr. Ray is quitting farming and will move to Fairfax, having rented the Miss Tena Kramer property now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Davis. Carter Botkin is also selling some property in the sale, and he will move to St. Joseph.
