The Rock Port Tourism Board met Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. at Rock Port City Hall. Members present were Mike Farmer, Holly Huntley, Tami Lansdown, Diana Liess, and Angela Mace. Members absent were Mandy Herron, Chris Shimmel, and Jody VanSickle. Also present were Dan Athen, Jim and Alma Clodfelter, and City Clerk Emily Schulte.
Diana Liess called the meeting to order.
Members voted to approve the meeting agenda, the February 5, 2019, meeting minutes, and the February 2019 financials.
Dan Athen was present to request donations for the 2019 4th of July fireworks show. Their wholesaler is offering a discount if ordered this month. Board members voted to approve the donation of $3,500 to the fireworks fund, as has been done in years past. Clerk Schulte will get a check to Dan.
Jim and Alma Clodfelter were present to request funds for the advertising expense acquired from Old Fashioned Saturday Night by the Chamber of Commerce. The total acquired was $921.20. The topic will be tabled until the April meeting to determine the amount the Tourism Board would like to contribute.
Plans for 4th of July were also discussed. The board inquired the possibility of the Chamber heading the festivities. For several years, no single group coordinates the festivities. While the Chamber is not interesting in taking over the event, they do plan to continue having kids’ games and the baby contest. The Tourism Board will continue to host the volleyball tournament.
Clerk Schulte informed the board of Jeff Jones’ resignation from the turbine site maintenance contract. It was decided that a work day was needed to assess the site. An ad and contract information will be discussed at the April meeting. The snow removal and landscaping could possibly be two separate contracts. Mike Farmer moved to accept Jeff Jones’ resignation. Angela Mace seconded.
Seven teams participated in the Trivia Day event. A total of $160 was raised, which will be donated to the Rock Port Senior Center. The Tourism Board will express their gratitude to the FCCLA and their event emcee. It was determined that snacks could be offered at any future trivia events, and a meal would not be necessary.
The Home & Garden event scheduled for March 30 will be rescheduled for a future date.
The Art Exhibit will be held April 10. More easels are needed. Members will reach out to local funeral homes and the school to inquire if they have any available. High school students, stained glass artists, and others will be invited to display their work with the option to sell if they choose. Grape juice and cheese will be offered as classical music is played. FFA is also holding a blood drive the same day. Free admission will be given to all individuals who donate to the drive. Funds collected from entry fees will be donated to the Rock Port High School Art Club.
Board members voted to approve advertising for the April 10 Art Exhibit.
The Park Board will be contacted for a possible collaboration for Movie Night.
The next meeting date will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at 6:00 p.m.
The meeting was then adjourned.
