Community Hospital-Fairfax (CH-F) recently announced it has achieved accreditation through Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) for the services of home sleep testing and sleep lab/center services.

Accreditation is a process through which healthcare organizations demonstrate compliance with national standards. Accreditation by ACHC reflects an organization’s dedication and commitment to meeting standards that facilitate a higher level of performance and patient care.

ACHC is a nonprofit organization that has stood as a symbol of quality and excellence since 1986. ACHC is ISO 9001:2015 certified and has CMS deeming authority for Home Health, Hospice and DMEPOS.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, more than 18 million American adults have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea can have significant negative health impacts including oxygen starvation, high blood pressure, heart disease, increased risk for stroke, mood and memory problems and poor-quality sleep.

Community Hospital-Fairfax will offer sleep apnea testing both in-home and in-lab. Home sleep testing offers patients the opportunity to receive diagnostic sleep testing in the comfort of their home for sleep apnea. In-lab testing, which occurs in the hospital, is appropriate for those who are experiencing severe sleep apnea or have a CPAP or BiPAP.

Symptoms of sleep apnea include snoring, witnessed long periods without a breath, shortness of breath and frequent urination at night. Risk factors for sleep apnea include obesity.

Suspected sleep apnea should be discussed with your primary care provider, who can recommend appropriate sleep testing at CH-F.
