Lorena Faye (Freeman) Martin Stevens, 91, formerly of Fairfax, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 30, 2019. Lorena was born to Wilson Reynolds and Irene Faye (Fagan) Freeman on January 6, 1928, at Agency, Missouri. Lorena graduated from Tarkio, Missouri, High School in 1946. On April 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Austin Wayne Martin. She was a homemaker and worked actively alongside Austin in their farming operation until Austin’s death in January, 1984. She was also preceded in death by her parents and infant great-granddaughter, Rachael Cook.
To this union four children were born: Roger (Ann) Martin of Skidmore, Missouri; Carolyn Martin of Higden, Arkansas; Dennis (Phyllis) Martin of Tarkio; and Maurice (Gay) Martin of Burlington Junction, Missouri. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Bryan (Caren) Martin, Brent (Jenn) Martin, Scott (Renee) Cook, Carrie (Britt) Gusmus, Monica (Keith) Bailey, Mackenzie (Clint) Dougherty, and A.J. (Tara) Martin; and 12 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In 1988, Lorena married Robert W. Stevens. They lived on the Martin family farm until Robert’s death in September, 2010. Step children are Walter (Shirley) Stevens, Gelvin (Marlene) Stevens, Nancy (Carl) Martin, Phyllis (Dennis) Martin, and eight step-grandchildren.
Lorena was an influential member of communities she was a part. She was an active member of Tarkio First Baptist Church and Fairfax Baptist Church. She was a member of Lone Star Extension Club and a long-time York 4-H Club leader. She was a member of Sew and Sew Club in Fairfax. Lorena worked for over 20 years part-time at Fabrics Unique at Craig, Missouri.
Lorena spent her last four and one-half years at Maryville Living Center. As always, Lorena touched and influenced many lives while there.
Funeral services for Lorena will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2019, at Fairfax Baptist Church with Pastor Andy Braams officiating. Family visitation will be held Thursday, April 4, 2019, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fairfax Baptist Church. Memorials may be directed to Fairfax Baptist Church, Fairfax, or Maryville Living Center, Maryville, Missouri. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax.
