Even though it was a cloudy day, the sun shined its proverbial light on the East Atchison Wolves Thursday evening, April 4, 2019. The Wolves hosted DeKalb in varsity and junior varsity action in Tarkio. The varsity Wolves took down the competition with a 15-0 win and the junior varsity Wolves tied with DeKalb 6-6.

The varsity offense was on fire with 11 hits, including one homerun by Max Hopkins and some near misses. Max also contributed six of the 15 RBIs hit by the Wolves. Several players also walked to first base. Pitcher Jake McEnaney struck out four and the Wolves infield and outfield assisted with nine putouts. Individual EA stats follow: Zach Garrison – 1 hit (1 single), 2 RBIs, 1 run, 2 walks; Carter Holecek – 2 runs; Tyler Brown – 1 hit (a double), 3 RBIs, 1 run, 1 walk, 2 putouts; Jake McEnaney – 2 hits (2 singles), 1 RBI, 2 runs, 1 walk, 3.0 innings pitched (2 walks, 4 strikeouts), 1 putout; Gage McAdams – 2 hits (1 single, 1 double), 1 RBI, 3 runs, 1 walk, 1 putout; Gus Hurst – 1 hit (1 single), 1 RBI, 1 run, 1 putout; Keaton Williams – 1 walk, 4 putouts; Max Hopkins – 3 hits (1 single, 1 double, 1 homerun), 6 RBIs, 2 runs; Aaron Schlueter – 1 RBI, 2 runs, 1 walk; and Tony Skeen – 1 hit (1 single), 1 run, 1 walk.

Even though the junior varsity Wolves had only two hits, it wasn’t due to strikeouts. Their “good” eyes got them on first base nine times from balls thrown by DeKalb’s pitcher. Six total runs scored and with DeKalb’s six, the game ended in a tie.
