Rock Port’s 1979 State Champion Track Team was recognized and inducted into the KMA Sports Hall of Fame during the annual Blue Jays Relays. Following a quick audio clip Coach Wayne Moore was asked to look back on his first year as a head coach and introduce those present. Rock Port picked up state championships from Chris Chamberlain in the 100 yard dash, Rodney Clark in the 220 yard dash, and from their 880 yard relay team of Chamberlain, Clark, Bill Alloway and Audie Jackson.

Moore says Chamberlain also placed in the 220 and long jump, Clark placed in the 100 and 220 and Mike Nielsen had placements in the mile and two mile races. In all, the Blue Jays scored 52 points to finish two ahead of the Missouri School for the Deaf.

The 1979 boys team was the first in a long line of state championships for Rock Port. Present were Gary Soske, Tony Schomburg, Audie Jackson, Mark Wilczek and Chris Chamberlain. Other members are Bill Alloway, Rod Clark, Mike Danley, Jodie Ellison, Larry Kennel, Curtis Mather, Shawn Mulvania, Mike Nelson, Dave Schierkolk, Pat Sheldon and Larry Shue.
