Megan Lee of Tarkio won the Missouri FFA Environmental Science and Natural Resource Management Proficiency Award and the Area 1 Star in Placement at the 91st Missouri FFA Convention. Megan also received her State FFA Degree. Lee, a senior at Tarkio R-I High School, is the daughter of Bill and Barb Lee. She is a member of the Tarkio FFA Chapter and her advisor is Dustin Lambertsen.
Lee’s supervised agricultural experience program consists of working for the Advanced Pork Systems truck wash. At the truck wash, she washes, cleans and sanitizes the company’s livestock haulers. Her responsibilities include sweeping and disinfecting the inside of the cab, power washing the outside of the cab and removing and installing the deck boards that go inside the trailers. The trucks are then moved to drying bays to prevent spread of bacteria to farrowing facilities. She also aids in training new employees on proper truck cleanliness. Lee’s SAE also involves beef and sheep production.
In FFA, Lee served as chapter vice president, treasurer and sentinel. She competed in FFA knowledge, agricultural sales and livestock judging career development events. Lee received a National FFA Grant for her beef production SAE. She also attended Washington Leadership Conference, National FFA Convention & Expo and Greenhand motivational conference. In addition to FFA, Lee is a member of the Farmer City 4-H Club, Missouri Girls State, robotics club and National Honor Society. She was also the school mascot for the Tarkio High School Indians and East Atchison Wolves. After high school graduation, Lee’s plans include studying in the John Deere Technician Program at Southeast Community College, Milford, Nebraska, with future plans to return to rural Missouri or Iowa to work for John Deere.
Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agriculture entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Environmental Science and Natural Resource Management is one of 48 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. Missouri Department of Natural Resources sponsored this award.
The Missouri FFA has 25,375 members representing 347 chapters. The national organization has more than 669,000 members representing 8,630 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
