• Introducing a new canine star and reuniting Roddy McDowall and Donald Crisp, the father and son in “How Green Was My Valley,” “Lassie Come Home” brings comedy, heart throbs, and drama to the Crescent Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 23 and 24.

• One hundred forty-three graduates of the Fairfax High School attended the annual alumni banquet held last Friday evening. The attendance was larger than last year and the number present was surprising considering the number who are now in the armed forces and could not attend.

May 15, 1969

• A former Fairfax graduate and high school athlete has won his second consecutive trophy for accuracy at the free-throw line. Richard Whitford, sophomore at Missouri Western College, St. Joseph, finished the season with 83% of attempted free shots made good as he racked up a 48% record from the field.

• A request for moonshine on the streets of Fairfax next week will not be in violation of the law – just Fairfax alumni hijinx – for that is the password to see would-be members of the elite group go into song and dance. Grand Ole Opry will be the theme for the annual alumni initiation which will end with a banquet at the school Friday, May 23.

• Saturday, May 3, efforts of the junior class came to a climax when they presented the junior-senior prom in a Japanese Garden. Seniors Jim Faulkner and Linda Volker were chosen by the juniors to reign over the prom as king and queen. A dance featuring the Quiet Zone followed the coronation.

• Once again it is time to proudly raise the flags of our departed loved ones, for those who served in the Armed Forces so we might have freedom. This Memorial Day, we have added more flags: #46 Ralph H. Wright, Army: WWI; #47 Richard Bayha, Army: WWI KIA in France; and #32 James W. Hawkins, Army: WWII.

• The 99th commencement will be held this Sunday, May 22, at 2:00 o’clock in the Fairfax School Gym. There are 14 senior graduates: Russell Brown, Sara Driskell, Joseph Gardner, Rick Gorman, Heidi Heitman, Dustin Jones, Dana Kemerling, Jeromey Moore, Phillip Moore, Marshal Oswald, Rachel Sefrit, Melissa Stewart, Tara Swinehart, and Cari Vinson.
