Judge Herron presented the 2019 President’s Award to the members of the Missouri Professional Association of Court Clerks (MoPACC) . Accepting on behalf of MoPACC was President Amanda Burnham.

Atchison County Associate Circuit Judge, Corey K. Herron, as President presided over the 104th Annual Meeting and Conference of the Missouri Association of Probate and Associate Circuit Judges (MAPACJ) held April 3-5, at Osage Beach, Missouri, in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Missouri Professional Association of Court Clerks.

The MAPACJ provides continuing legal education for its members at its annual three-day conference. Membership is open to all state probate judges, associate circuit judges and commissioners in Missouri’s 46 judicial circuits. Among the nearly 200 judges and commissioners registered were judges from the Missouri Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. Judge Dennis Eckold of Platte County, as the association’s vice-president for 2018-19, was charged with planning the annual conference which included topics covering issues in probate including a session on independent administration of decedents’ estates, best practices in treatment court, handling the challenging litigant, changes to Rules 21, 22 and 33 (bonds), child support update, effects of legalized marijuana, effects of domestic violence on children, drugged driving, legislative and budget update, bankruptcy issues affecting probate and associate circuit cases, ethics and judicial retirement. A special presentation on the judicial professionalism was presented by Glenn Norton, formerly of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District. Judge W. Brent Powell, Missouri Supreme Court Judge presented the annual Judicial Address to the judges and clerks attending the conference as well as presenting on the changes to Rules 21, 22 and 33 along with Judges Jeff Bates, Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District, and Roy Richter, Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District.

At the organization’s business meeting, the officers and board of directors for the coming year were elected, with Judge Dennis Eckold, Platte County, elected president for 2019-20. The vice-president will be Judge Mark Styles, Jr. of Jackson County. Judge Tracey A. Mason-White of Sullivan County was elected secretary/treasurer and Judge Mondonna Ghasedi, St. Louis County, was elected historian. Judge Herron will continue to serve as member of the executive committee and board as past president. Elected to the Board of Directors were Judges Elizabeth Bock, Douglas County, Joseph L. Green, St. Louis County, Joseph L. Hensley, Jasper County, Timothy W. Inman, Ste. Genevieve County, Kelly L. Lovekamp, Schuyler County, Joe Don McGaugh, Carroll County, Rebeca Navarro-McKelvey, St. Charles County, Margaret E. Palmietto, Greene County, Kimberly J. Shaw, Boone County, Kristie Swaim, Adair County, W. Doug Thomson, Nodaway County, Johnson County, and Joshua Underwood, New Madrid County.

Judge Herron has served as Probate and Associate Circuit Judge for Atchison County since 2008.
