Evelyn M. Roop, age 91 of Hamburg, Iowa, passed away May 9, 2019, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port, Missouri.
She was born September 18, 1927, at Peru, Nebraska, the daughter of Lester Raymond and Carolina Anna (Erdman) Horton.
She was united in marriage to James Richard Roop on January 21, 1946, at Hiawatha, Kansas. Two daughters, Nancy and Diane, were born to this union. Jim preceded her in death on December 10, 1997.
Evelyn worked at various jobs over the years including Otoe Canning Factory in Hamburg, as a floral designer for her daughter Nancy’s floral shop and in the cafeteria at the Hamburg Schools. She was very active in the community and was a member of the Hamburg Baptist Church, the Grape Community Hospital Auxiliary and the Nebraska City Quilting Guild. Evelyn had many hobbies including gardening, fishing, camping, traveling, quilting, crocheting and cooking.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters: Nancy Finnell of Hamburg and Diane Zuck and husband, Jim, of Hamburg; six grandchildren: Rodney Finnell of Hamburg, Brian Finnell and wife, Ellynan, of Riverton, Iowa, Ronda Lingerfelt and husband, Quint, of Rock Port, Missouri, Leslie Gillespie of Rowlett, Texas, Mark Zuck and wife, Amy, of Knoxville, Iowa, and Kim Brachtel and husband, Matt, of Papillion, Nebraska; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dale E. Horton, Papillion, Nebraska; and sister-in-law and best friend, Caryl Horton, of Papillion; nieces, nephews, other family and friends. In addition to her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Raymond L. Horton and Eva Miller; and son-in-law, Larry Finnell.
A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Baptist Church in Hamburg. Burial was in the Mt. Olive Cemetery southeast of Hamburg.
Memorials may be given to Hamburg Rescue or Mt. Olive Cemetery Association.
